Obituary for Ruth Elizabeth Stanley (Metzer)

Ruth Elizabeth Stanley, (89) of Catonsville passed away on August 30, 2019 at the Hospice of the Chesapeake in Pasadena, MD. Mrs. Stanley was born on February 20, 1930 in Ozone Park , Queens, New York to the late Harry Harold Metzer and Josephine Mills Werckmann. She was the wife of the late Robert Tice Stanley. She was married to Robert for 66 years.

Ruth graduated from Adelphi College in Garden City, NY with a BS degree in Education. She began her teaching career as a teacher of gifted students. Ruth took time off to raise 4 children, and as they became older , she worked as a substitute teacher in PG County Schools. Eventually, Ruth embarked on a 2nd career working as a Systems Analyst in the Strategic Systems Programs at Vitro Laboratories in Silver Spring, MD. She was an active member of Christian Community Presbyterian Church in Bowie, MD until the end of her career. Upon retiring, she moved to Owings Mills, MD to be closer to her daughters and became a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. Ruth loved God and family. She enjoyed playing the piano,reading, knitting, doing cross stitch and being active in the lives of her grandchildren. She and her husband were excellent dancers from the Big Band era.

She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Margaret Loys of Relay, MD and Sarah Ruth Potter of Relay, MD, sons, Paul Tice Stanley of Clifton Park, NY and Scott Robert Stanley of Grand Haven, MI. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her sister Josephine Metzer Wittmer.

Family will receive friends at the Eline Funeral Home, 11824 Reisterstown Road (at Franklin Blvd.) on Thursday, September 5, 2019 4-7pm. Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 10am at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 705 Main Street, Reisterstown, MD. Private Interment in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery. Due notice of time will be given.
