Obituary for Robert L. "Bob" Hagel

Robert L. Hagel, 93, of Hampstead, MD passed away on May 23, 2019. Born April 4, 1926 in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Edgar and Anna (Stouffel) Hagel and the devoted husband of the late Frances (Steeb) Hagel.

Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII. He served with the 320th Infantry Regiment, 35th Division at the Battle of the Bulge. For bravery and courage under fire Bob was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After the war ended Bob received a BA in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. He went on to establish a Home Building Company. He enjoyed entertaining friends and family at Deep Creek Lake, church, helping people, horseshoes, bowling, golf, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, making Bloody Marys, burning fires in his fireplace, playing football in a leather helmet and fighting for his country.

His family fondly remembers his corny jokes, big smile, sense of humor, kind and generous heart, love of building houses, pride in his military service, his love of his family and the strength of his character. He was a Lifetime Member of the American Legion Post 540, Pittsburgh, PA. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 61 years, Frances J. Hagel and brother, Edgar Hagel.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Maureen Page and husband Gary of Hampstead, MD; son, Robert E. Hagel and wife Marianne of Manassas, VA; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Wickerham and brother, Edgar Hagel.

A gathering of family & friends will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019, from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm; followed by a Memorial service at 12:00pm at the Eline Funeral Home, 934 South Main Street, Hampstead, MD with Pastor Art Monroe officiating..
