Obituary

On November 16, 2019, Josephine “Jo” Elizabeth Minturn, of Finksburg, MD and formerly of Nutley, NJ, beloved wife for 62 years of the late John Francis Minturn; devoted mother of Victoria Minturn Mahr and her husband Bob, of Finksburg, MD and Dana Minturn Munch and her husband Bob, of Tinton Falls, NJ; dear sister of Joseph Barba of Tobyhanna, PA, Gloria (Barba) Law of Livermore, CA, Lenora Barba of Pearland, TX, Sandra (Barba) Rodgers of Pearland, TX, the late Michael Barba and her identical twin sister, Raffael (Barba) Gryczkowski; cherished grandmother of Anna, Beth and Clare Mahr. Also survived by her treasured and spoiled grand dogs that brought her much joy; Rooney, Zita, and Finley, the late Max, Christie, and Mandy. She is predeceased by her parents Bruno and Michelena Barba.

Jo was a member of Nutley Jr. Womens Club, Glen Ridge Country Club, and the Roaring Run Lions Club. She was an avid tennis and golf player well into her 70’s and enjoyed afternoons of lunch and cards with “the girls” at the club. Jo was famous for her dinner parties, Italian cooking, and sense of personal style and decorating her home. Most importantly, Jo loved caring for her family. Her love and joy of time spent with her granddaughters will forever be imprinted on their hearts. Her generous heart loved to serve others by helping the Covenant House (NYC), decorating the Shepherd’s Staff Festival of Trees, and making Christmas special for those in need.

You may visit with the family at 1 pm in the gathering space of Sacred Heart Glyndon on Monday, November 25th, 2019, followed by a Funeral Mass at 2 pm. An additional Celebration of Life will occur in New Jersey, in the near future. Interment will be private at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157 or www.carrollhospice.org or Keller’s Cause (a 501c3 promoting the adoption of special needs dogs), (please mention Josephine Minturn in the memo) and mailed to 160 Funk Road, Port Deposit, MD 21904 or online at www.kellerscause.com.
